I&M Bank has launched the Milele Rewards Program, a groundbreaking loyalty initiative developed in partnership with Mastercard that promises to transform the customer rewards landscape in the Kenyan banking sector. The program’s name, “Milele,” which means “everlasting” in Swahili, symbolizes the bank’s dedication to building enduring relationships with its customers through meaningful incentives.

Building upon its previous cashback-based loyalty scheme, the new program offers cardholders unprecedented flexibility and value. Unlike the earlier model that focused primarily on cashback, the Milele Rewards Program introduces a comprehensive points system that allows customers to earn rewards on every transaction. Cardholders can now redeem their points for an extensive range of benefits, including flights with over 1,650 airlines, hotel accommodations worldwide, and vouchers from local partner merchants.
A standout feature of the program is its innovative 100% conversion rate, where 1 Milele Point directly equates to 1 Kenyan Shilling (KES). This transparency allows customers to earn up to 2% cashback on their spending, with enhanced rewards available for premium-tier cards and higher transaction volumes. The program automatically enrolls customers when they use their I&M debit or credit cards, ensuring that every transaction contributes to their rewards balance.
Gul Khan, CEO of I&M Bank Kenya, emphasized the program’s significance during its launch in Nairobi. “At I&M Bank, we aim to enrich the lives of Kenyans with solutions that resonate with their everyday needs,” he stated. “Milele Rewards is more than just a loyalty initiative—it’s our way of expressing gratitude to our customers and providing a lifestyle experience that truly adds value.”
The program is the result of a collaborative effort between I&M Bank, ICC (a global customer engagement solutions leader), and Mastercard. Shehryar Ali, Mastercard’s Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa, highlighted the program’s unique positioning. He noted that the Milele Rewards Program offers eight times more value than any other rewards platform in Kenya, aligning with similar programs in the Gulf and UAE regions.
Emphasizing consumer choice, the program allows cardholders to redeem their points flexibly—whether for travel, accommodation, or direct cashback. This approach reflects the bank’s understanding of modern consumer preferences, particularly the growing demand for transparent and personalized banking experiences. By offering customers control over their rewards, I&M Bank is setting a new standard in customer loyalty and engagement in the Kenyan banking market.
